Company description:: CREDITCALL LAUNCHES NEW CUSTOMER IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR BANKS AND BUILDING SOCIETIES
23rd March 2004 - CreditCall Communications today announced a new application based on its EMV transaction processing software that is set to revolutionise the process of identifying bank and building society customers when they visit branches. It will make the procedure of positive customer identification faster, easier and with a far higher degree of security.
Traditionally customers wishing to make special withdrawals, balance enquiries, foreign exchanges and conduct other business not available from an ATM, have identified themselves by a signature matching that on a bank-issued card. Inherently flawed and easily forged, signature has been superceded on the new EMV chip-based credit and debit cards by a Personal Identification Number or PIN, as the means of cardholder verification.
The new system uses the new EMV cards to enable the authentication of the card holder by verifying their PIN, and is integrated with the system the teller would normally use to enable transactions. A complete transaction need not necessarily be performed i.e. a PIN can be verified without a financial transaction being conducted, and the method is far less intrusive and quicker than staff asking for personal information as a means of verifying the individual. Typically, the user would pass their card to the bank teller and enter their PIN on the PINpad situated on the customer's side of the desk position - an operation that can be completed in seconds. The bank teller gets an instant indication that the cardholder is legitimate - if not, the teller can withhold the card whilst enquiries are made.
CreditCall's EmvX Toolkit is an EMV upgrade for all types of Bank Teller Positions that allows banks to integrate full EMV compliance into their front desk systems. Integrating seamlessly with bespoke Bank-developed applications, EmvX runs on all versions of Windows including Windows CE. A separate PINpad is required to complete the installation, and EmvX is compatible with all popular PINpads from the major manufacturers.
CreditCall's Development Director Jeremy Gumbley said "Chip and PIN introduces a number of significant benefits for Financial Institutions - cryptographic card authentication and card holder authentication through the verification of PIN. The Microsoft COM interface of EmvX enables easy access to these and other features of EMV within the Windows environment."
